Recruitment - top tips for managing CVs
Here are our top tips for good data handling of personal data in CVs and job applications.
- You should give individuals advance warning of how personal data will be used by your organisation. This is known as a “privacy notice”. Include a link to job candidate and employee privacy notices on your company website in recruitment advertisements.
- A CV should be kept for no more than six months following an unsuccessful job application. If you want to keep a CV for longer, ask the individual for permission for a specified time.
- A speculative CV that is of interest could be kept for up to six months. After that it is likely to be out of date. If you want to keep it for longer, ask the individual for a specific extension of time.
- When sharing CVs with colleagues it is advisable to put the information in a central location and email colleagues to invite them to view it rather than sending emails with attachments. In that way wrongly addressed emails will not include personal data and you will avoid a personal data breach. It also helps to prevent duplicate copies of the personal data around the business.
